ABOUT: Bio

Amy McCarley is a Huntsville, Alabama singer-songwriter whose emotionally honest songs blend Americana, rock, and Southern storytelling with an uncommon sense of introspection. A former NASA contractor, she writes about resilience, identity, and transformation, drawing on both personal experience and her aerospace background to tell stories of finding new trajectories through life’s hardest seasons.

Her third album, MECO (2019)—named for Main Engine Cut Off, the point in a Space Shuttle mission when the main engines shut down and momentum carries the vehicle beyond powered flight—captured her own leap from aerospace into music. Produced by Kenny Vaughan and George Bradfute, the album featured collaborations with Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer Pat Alger and performances by Chris Scruggs, Marty Stuart, Kenny Lovelace, Harry Stinson, and others. No Depression praised McCarley’s voice as “a nuanced instrument,” while Vaughan has noted that her songs resonate because they are rooted in lived experience and emotional truth.

Now McCarley is preparing her fourth studio album, TLI (Trans Lunar Injection), after completing mature demos in her Huntsville, Alabama home studio. She will soon return to Nashville to co-produce the record with Kenny Vaughan and George Bradfute, earning her first co-production credit. Expanding into a more electronic rock landscape while remaining grounded in vulnerable songwriting, Americana influences, and a distinctly Southern perspective, TLI marks a new sonic direction without abandoning the authenticity that has defined her work.

TLI is the second installment in McCarley’s four-album spaceflight-inspired cycle, which began with MECO (Main Engine Cut Off) and will continue with LOI (Lunar Orbit Insertion) and EOI (Earth Orbit Insertion). Like the stages of a mission beyond Earth, the four albums trace a larger artistic journey—from departure and commitment, to transformation, perspective, and ultimately returning home changed. Together they reflect McCarley’s own evolution as both an artist and a person, inviting listeners to consider not only where they’re headed, but who they become along the way.
